Marine spill kits are designed to contain and clean up oil and fuel spills on water. The 240L kit includes floating marine booms, absorbent pads, ropes, protective gloves and disposal bags for spill response. Suitable for marinas, ports, jetties and other waterside operations, these kits use water-repellent absorbents to recover hydrocarbons, with refill kits and additional marine booms available for ongoing spill management.Â

A spill on water behaves differently to one on a hardstand. There is no surface to soak it up from and nothing to stop it spreading, so the first move is containment rather than absorption. Marine booms are linked with snap hooks and deployed around the spill to hold it in one area, and worked into position with the ropes supplied. Only once the slick is contained does recovery with absorbent pads become practical.
The absorbents themselves are hydrophobic and float, which is what makes them work in this setting. They take up fuel and oil off the surface while shedding the water underneath, so a pad lifted from a marina keeps the hydrocarbon and leaves the seawater behind. Perforated pads tear to size, which matters when working from a pontoon or a vessel deck where a full pad is often more than the job needs.
Specification for marine work is less about volume and more about reach. Boom length determines how large an area can be enclosed, and a 240L kit carrying three 3m booms encloses a small working area such as a fuel point or a small vessel. Sites with longer frontage or higher risk should hold additional booms, which are available individually in a 5m x 130mm format with snap hooks for joining. Keep kits where the water is, not in a shed up the hill, because a slick spreads with wind and tide while someone fetches it.
A marine spill kit is built for oil and fuel spills on water. It combines floating booms for containment with hydrophobic absorbent pads for recovery, plus ropes, gloves and disposal bags.
Both use hydrophobic absorbents, but a marine kit adds floating booms with snap hooks and ropes for containing a slick on water. A standard oil kit is built for spills on hard surfaces.
Three 3m x 200mm marine booms with snap hooks, 60 perforated absorbent pads, two 20m ropes, elbow-length PVC gloves, eight heavy-duty disposal bags and a labelled 240L bin.
Snap hooks let booms be joined end to end so a longer run can be deployed around a larger slick, and let them be tied off to a pontoon, jetty or vessel while in use.
Perforation lets a pad be torn to the size needed rather than using a full sheet on a small patch. On a deck or pontoon, that reduces both waste and handling.
No. They are hydrophobic, so they take up hydrocarbons from the surface and shed the water underneath. A recovered pad holds fuel or oil rather than seawater.
It depends on the area you need to enclose. Three 3m booms give 9m of containment, which suits a fuel point or a small vessel. Longer frontage or higher risk sites should hold additional booms.
Yes. Marine booms are available individually in a 5m x 130mm format with a snap hook, so a kit can be extended without buying a second complete kit.
Yes. A refill kit restores the contents of the 240L without replacing the bin, which is the usual way to bring a used kit back to full after a response.
Working the booms into position and tying them off. A boom deployed on open water will drift without being secured, so the ropes are what hold the containment line where it is needed.
Vessels and waterside facilities can carry specific pollution response obligations depending on size, type and operation. Check what applies to your vessel or facility before specifying.
The kit carries 3m x 200mm booms, and the separate booms are 5m x 130mm. Both join with snap hooks, so a site can extend its containment run using either.
